Description
  • Function: This instrument is used to measure the flow rate of an electrically conductive liquid passing through a pipe. It determines the volumetric flow rate (volume per unit of time) and can often measure flow in both directions (bi-directional flow measurement).
  • Working Principle: It operates based on Faraday’s Law of Electromagnetic Induction. When a conductive fluid moves through a magnetic field generated by coils in the sensor, it induces a voltage proportional to the fluid’s velocity. This voltage is then measured by electrodes and converted into a flow measurement by the transmitter unit.
  • Components: The system consists of two main parts:
    • Sensor/Flow Tube (left): This is the part installed directly in the pipeline (flange type connection visible in the image) through which the fluid flows. It contains the magnetic coils and electrodes.
    • Transmitter/Converter Unit (right): This separate electronic box (remote or split type) processes the signals from the sensor. It features an LCD display and buttons for showing the flow rate, total flow, and allowing users to set parameters.
  • Key Features: A primary advantage is the lack of moving parts within the flow path, which results in minimal pressure loss and low maintenance requirements, making it ideal for use with water, wastewater, slurries, and various chemicals.
